Job Description

The Racing Engine Builder plays a critical role in supporting the Racing Department by assembling, rebuilding, inspecting, and maintaining high-performance racing engines to manufacturer specifications and Spring Mountain Racing quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Assemble, rebuild, inspect, and service high-performance racing engines in accordance with manufacturer specifications and Spring Mountain Racing quality standards.
• · Read and interpret assembly blueprints, technical manuals, specifications, and service information to accurately complete engine builds and repairs.
• · Inspect, measure, and verify engine components using precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and gauges.
• · Assemble, install, align, and adjust engine components and related systems to ensure proper fit, function, and performance.
• · Diagnose engine failures, identify root causes, and repair or replace damaged or worn engine components as required.
• · Perform final quality inspections to verify completed engine builds meet manufacturer specifications and Spring Mountain Racing quality standards prior to installation or release.
• · Perform engine break-in procedures and operate vehicles on the dynamometer (dyno) to verify engine performance and reliability following engine rebuilds.
• · Accurately document engine rebuilds, inspections, labor, and related work activities in accordance with established company procedures.
• · Coordinate with the Parts Department to maintain engine component inventory, order required parts and ensure materials are available for scheduled engine builds and repairs.
• · Maintain engine assembly equipment, specialty tools, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition while following all Spring Mountain Racing safety policies and procedures.
• · Provide technical support and guidance to Shop Technicians regarding engine diagnostics, repairs, installations, and performance-related concerns.
• · Collaborate with the Racing Manager, Parts Department, Service Advisors, Shop Technicians, and other departments to support efficient daily shop operations.
• · Support Race Weekends, member events, and trackside operations by preparing and maintaining reliable, race-ready engines.
• · Participate in technical training, manufacturer updates, and continuous improvement initiatives to maintain current knowledge of engine technology and industry best practices.
• · Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Racing Manager.

• Is available to work extended days for monthly weekend racing events.

Experience & Education Needed

• High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required.
• · Minimum of five (5) years of professional engine building experience required.
• · Experience building, rebuilding, and servicing high-performance racing engines is required.
• · Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, specifications, and precision measurements.
• · Experience using precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and gauges.
• · Must provide personal hand tools necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
• · Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented technical environment.
• · ASE certifications or other industry-recognized automotive certifications are preferred.
• · Experience operating engine dynamometers (dynos) and performing engine break-in procedures is preferred.
• · Experience working in a motorsports, racing, or high-performance automotive environment is preferred.
• · Maintain a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and meet the company’s insurability requirements.
• · Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, certifications, and relevant work experience may be considered.

General Physical Requirements & Work Environment

• Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Climbing and ascending or descending stairs, using feel and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
• Stooping or bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
• Kneeling or bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
• Crouching or bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
• Talking or expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
• Hearing or perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and make fine discriminations in sound. Able to use a two-way radio effectively.
• Smelling or perceiving or detecting the odor or scent of something. Ability to detect the odor or scent of something and make fine distinctions in smell.
• Repetitive Motions with substantial movement (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
• The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
• The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside at times exposing the worker to extreme weather conditions.
• The worker is subject to noise: There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. A noise level over 110db can occur during testing, racing and some equipment use.
• The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals, walking and working on slippery and uneven surfaces.
