Job Description

The Racing Shop Porter plays an essential role in supporting the daily operations of the Racing Shop by assisting with vehicle movement, shop organization, cleanliness, and general operational support. Working closely with the Shop Foreman, Shop Technicians, Service Advisor, Parts Department, and Engine Builder, the Racing Shop Porter helps maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment while ensuring vehicles, equipment, and work areas are prepared to support daily operations, member programs, Race Weekends, and special events.

A Racing Shop Porter is an entry-level position responsible for moving, cleaning, and maintaining vehicles and facilities to support the shop’s daily operations. A porter generally assists technicians, parts staff, and customers to ensure the shop runs smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

Move cars, trucks, UTV’s, and motorcycles within the property to and from the racing shop and member garages and homes.
Assist technicians by pushing/driving vehicles in and out of service bays as needed.
Assist with loading and unloading of transport trucks and trailers.
Detailing and maintenance
Thoroughly cleaning vehicles interiors and exteriors, often detailing them to showroom standards.
Keeping vehicles fluids replenished and batteries charged
Inspect vehicles for any damage and reporting issues to management.
Shop and facility upkeep
Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the shop, services bays, and showroom.
Perform general cleaning tasks, such as sweeping, mopping, and taking out trash.
Handling other basic building maintenance as needed.
General shop support
Running of errands relating to racing operations.
Assist in preparing cars for test drives or customer delivery.
Mounting tires for race cars after being trained.
Must have ability to work in a time-sensitive environment and under pressure.
Must have intermediate level of mechanical understanding.
Have the ability to work both on your own initiative and as part of a team.
Driving a large pickup truck and pulling a trailer carrying high value loads.
Develop foundational skills relating to truck and trailer maintenance. Have an understanding of transportation regulations.
Maneuvering and handling: wide turns, braking and acceleration, anticipatory driving, managing trailer sway, and smooth steering.
Advanced skills: backing up, mirror usage, parking and tight spaces.
Safe towing practices: weight management, load securement, and hitch inspection.

Required Skills & Abilities

Support the daily operations of the Racing Shop by assisting the Racing Manager, Shop Foreman, Shop Technicians, Service Advisor, Parts Department, and Engine Builder with operational and logistical needs.
Safely transport race cars, street vehicles, trucks, UTVs, motorcycles, and other company vehicles between the Racing Shop, member garages, member residences, storage facilities, transport trailers, and designated locations throughout the property.
Stage, move, and position vehicles for service, maintenance, inspections, detailing, testing, delivery, Race Weekends, and special events.
Assist with loading, unloading, securing, and transporting race vehicles, equipment, and materials while following all company safety procedures and transportation guidelines.
Wash, detail, and prepare vehicle interiors and exteriors to Spring Mountain Racing presentation standards, ensuring all vehicles are clean and ready for member delivery or track activities.
Perform routine vehicle readiness tasks, including checking and replenishing fluid levels, maintaining battery chargers, verifying tire pressures, and reporting any damage or maintenance concerns to the Shop Foreman or Racing Manager.
Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and overall appearance of the Racing Shop, service bays, storage areas, garages, and surrounding workspaces.
Perform general facility support duties, including sweeping, mopping, trash removal, organizing work areas, and assisting with minor housekeeping and maintenance tasks.
Assist with parts deliveries, inventory organization, shop errands, and other operational support activities as assigned.
Mount and balance race tires after successfully completing required training and demonstrating competency.
Safely operate company trucks, including dually trucks and vehicles towing trailers, while transporting high-value race vehicles, equipment, and materials.
Perform pre-trip inspections of trucks, trailers, hitches, tie-downs, and towing equipment to ensure safe operation and proper load securement.
Demonstrate safe towing practices, including weight distribution, trailer maneuvering, backing, parking, defensive driving, and compliance with applicable transportation regulations.
Support Race Weekends, member programs, track events, and special events by assisting with vehicle preparation, transportation, staging, paddock setup, and general operational support.
Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, accountability, initiative, and a positive team-oriented attitude while contributing to a safe, efficient, and organized work environment.
Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Racing Manager.

General Physical Requirements & Work Environment

Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds unassisted.
