Job Description

The Racing Shop Technician plays a critical role in maintaining, diagnosing, repairing, and preparing high-performance race vehicles to manufacturer specifications and Spring Mountain Racing quality standards. This position works closely with the Racing Manager, Shop Foreman, Service Advisor, Parts Department, and Engine Builder to support daily shop operations, preventative maintenance, race preparation, and Race Weekend activities while ensuring every vehicle is safe, reliable, and race ready.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and race preparation on high-performance race vehicles in accordance with manufacturer specifications and Spring Mountain Racing quality standards.
• Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain mechanical, electrical, suspension, braking, steering, cooling, and drivetrain systems to ensure vehicle safety, reliability, and performance.
• Prepare race vehicles for member programs, Race Weekends, track events, and special events by completing scheduled maintenance, pre-event inspections, and post-event service.
• Perform vehicle setup, chassis adjustments, alignments, corner balancing, and suspension tuning based on track conditions, manufacturer specifications, and driver feedback.
• Evaluate vehicle performance and effectively interpret driver feedback to diagnose handling, performance, and mechanical concerns while recommending appropriate adjustments and repairs.
• Work closely with the Shop Foreman, Racing Manager, Service Advisor, Parts Department, and Engine Builder to coordinate repairs, prioritize work orders, and maintain efficient shop operations.
• Complete assigned repair orders accurately, documenting inspections, repairs, labor, recommendations, and technician notes within Shop Monkey in accordance with company procedures.
• Conduct final quality inspections and road or track testing, when appropriate, to verify repairs and ensure vehicles meet Spring Mountain Racing quality and safety standards.
• Maintain shop tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition while following all Spring Mountain Racing safety policies, OSHA regulations, and manufacturer guidelines.
• Support Race Weekends, member events, and trackside operations by providing technical support and maintaining race-ready vehicles.
• Participate in technical training, manufacturer updates, and continuous improvement initiatives to maintain current knowledge of vehicle systems, diagnostics, and repair procedures.
• Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and a strong commitment to quality workmanship and exceptional member service.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Racing Manager.

Experience & Education Needed

• High School Diploma, General Education Diploma (GED), or equivalent required.
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience in automotive maintenance, repair, or performance vehicle service required.
• Experience working in a dealership, performance shop, racing environment, or automotive service facility is preferred.
• Working knowledge of automotive diagnostics, preventative maintenance, suspension, braking, steering, cooling, electrical, and drivetrain systems.
• Ability to read and interpret service manuals, repair procedures, technical specifications, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer service information.
• Experience using automotive diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, and shop equipment required to perform repairs and maintenance.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and experience using Shop Monkey or comparable shop management software is preferred.
• ASE Certification(s) are preferred but not required.
• Experience supporting Race Weekends, member track events, or high-performance motorsports operations is highly desirable.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team-oriented environment.
• Maintain a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and meet the company’s insurability requirements.
• Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, certifications, and relevant work experience may be considered.

General Physical Requirements & Work Environment

• Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds unassisted.
• Climbing and ascending or descending ladders, stairs, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required by ordinary locomotion.
• Stooping or bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
• Kneeling or bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
• Crouching or bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
• Reaching or extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
• Standing, particularly for sustained periods of time.
• Pushing or using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
• Pulling or using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
• Lifting or raising objects from a lower to higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
• Grasping or applying pressure to an object with the fingers or palm.
• Feeling or perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
• Talking or expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
• Hearing or perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and make fine discriminations in sound. Able to use a two-way radio effectively.
• Smelling or perceiving or detecting the odor or scent of something. Ability to detect the odor or scent of something and make fine distinctions in smell.
• Repetitive Motions with substantial movement (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
• The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading; visual inspection involving small defects; small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measured devices; and/or assembly of fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
• The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
• The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside at times exposing the worker to extreme weather conditions.
• The worker is subject to noise: There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. A noise level over 110db can occur during testing, racing and some equipment use.
• The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals, walking and working on slippery and uneven surfaces.
